Detailed Description
This study looks into the situation of water scarcity in the rural areas of Madhya Pradesh (MP) and documents the challenges faced by the tribal population in relation to water availability. Due to severe depletion of groundwater in the state (depleting at an average rate of 20 centimetres per year), UNICEF and the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI), Nagpur jointly undertook the Wisewater Management (WWM) project in Madhya Pradesh (MP), which targets the problem of water availability faced by the marginalized, tribal groups in the rural areas of the state. The case study throws ample light on the WWM project per se, starting from its components and various phases of implementation, to the strategies adopted and role of various stakeholders. Based on a range of findings around performance, sustainability and outreach, the study methodically recommended along the lines of flexibility, evaluation, operation and maintenance, participation, integrated development etc
